Malcolm Brogdon has reportedly been playing through a partial tendon tear in his right arm during the Eastern Conference Finals, a possible explanation for his rough shooting against the Miami Heat. The Celtics, trailing the series 3-0, face Miami in a must-win Game 5 on Thursday at TD Garden, with tipoff set for 8:30 p.m.

Jared Weiss, who covers the Celtics for The Athletic, reported that Brogdon is dealing with a partial tear in the tendon that runs from his right elbow into his forearm. According to Weiss, the guard was hurt in Game 1 while going up against Heat forward Kevin Love.

The problem may not be entirely new. Brogdon was also reportedly dealing with soreness in the same elbow during Boston's second-round series against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Through the first four games of the conference finals, the 30-year-old has struggled with his shot. He is making 35 percent of his attempts from the field and 21.4 percent from three-point range, both well below his regular-season numbers.

Brogdon joined Boston in 2022 in a trade from the Pacers and has become a valuable piece of the team. His production off the bench earned him the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year award.

Despite the reported injury, Brogdon is said to intend to keep playing as the Celtics try to dig out of their series deficit.

Elsewhere in Boston sports, the Red Sox were swept in a three-game series by the Angels, who completed the sweep Wednesday night with a 7-3 win. Boston has an off day Thursday before opening a series against the Diamondbacks in Arizona on Friday night.

In MLS news, Revolution winger Dylan Borrero will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL. His teammates and coaches recorded a video message to show their support for the player.
